What is a SME?

1/31/2017

The abbreviation SME is mostly used for Small and Medium sized Enterprises. When SME Academy was founded back in 2004 we also adopted the SME as a part of our name to indicate or domain of expertise and interest.

Related to European projects and other activities the term has been frequently used and adopted in a number of documents, tools, methods etc. But - SME is a very wide range of enterprises - and there is a big difference in the conditions and resources in a very small business compared to a medium sized. View this short video to see how we define different sizes of SMEs in Europe.
As you can see - Solo and Micro Enterprises reaches more than 90% of all enterprises in Europe and is a very important group of businesses when it comes to self-employment/employment, growth and stability in the economy.

Therefore we can see that more and more projects and activities are aiming at VSE, Very Small Enterprises, or as we prefer to call them in SME Academy - Solo and Micro Enterprises. We have started to use SME in the meaning of Solo and Micro instead and our academy and network are focused at them because of the difference in the needs and prerequisites for them compared to a medium sized enterprise.

Feel free to share the video produced by SMEBOX - The Toolbox for Solo and Micro Enterprises.

1/17/2017

SME Academy is planning for a net based Round table on a very interesting topic. “What can we do to support SMEs in Europe”.
“We” in this case are members of the SME Academy Network and specially invited guests. If you have any suggestions for the content or guests to invite – please send us an e-mail on info @ smeacademy.se. What we like to discuss and brainstorm about are new ideas and initiatives to add to the existing programs we can see today.
